Bryce Hoppel TFRRS: A Rising Star in Professional Running

As his junior season at the University of Kansas came to a close, Bryce Hoppel announced that he would be forgoing his final year of NCAA eligibility to pursue a professional running career. Under the guidance of Head Coach Stanley Redwine and Assistant Coach Michael Whittlesey, Hoppel thrived during his time at KU, setting numerous records along the way.

One of Hoppel's most notable achievements came on May 9, 2019, when he set the Kansas indoor school record with a time of 1:46.46. This feat was all the more impressive considering it broke facility records at the Birmingham Crossplex and John McDonnell Field, among others. His time was just shy of the Kansas school record of 1:44.3 (m), which had been set by the legendary Jim Ryun in 1966.

Hoppel's breakout season also saw him claim the No. 5 spot on the list of fastest 800 meter times in NCAA history, with a blistering time of 1:44.41 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 7, 2019. This impressive performance capped off an unbeaten streak that spanned 21 races, lasting from the indoor season in 2019 until the USATF Outdoor Championships on July 25.

During his time at KU, Hoppel was a five-time All-American, two-time National Champion, and four-time Big 12 Champion. He also broke school records in the 800 meters (1:49.67), 1,600 meters (4:10.51), and 3 miles (14:54.00).

Before his collegiate career, Hoppel was a standout athlete at Midland High School in Midland, Texas. In 2016, he won the Texas 6A State Track & Field Championship with a time of 1:49.67, capping off an undefeated season in the 800 meters. He also graduated in the top-10 of his high school class.
